Summary: Good enough for my Powerbook
Comment: I purchased this hard drive to replace a Western Digital 120GB that replaced the stock drive in my 12" Powerbook G4. So far, I haven't had any problems at all. The drive runs cool and quiet. I'd recommend this drive to anyone looking to get the most space for your IDE laptop.

Summary: Great hard drive at a reasonable price
Comment: I found it hard to find a parallel drive in the size range I wanted. Most drives are SATA now. This one fit the bill perfectly. It also has all the latest features including the all-important free-fall sensor. It works great and, after I imaged my 60 gig drive onto it, gives me plenty more space to work with on my notebook. If your notebook doesn't use SATA drives, I definitely recommend this drive.

Summary: Drive works great but took longer to get than advertised
Comment: Ordered and waited and waited for drive to appear. 2-3 day average ship time was advertised but turned into two weeks using free shipping. Drive is great, installed and works fine.

Summary: NOT recommended
Comment: I upgraded my Dell Inspiron 9300 to this drive. After having finally loaded all the applications, and running happy for 1 week, the next power up it had "Disk read error", and was permanently dead. I got a replacement, and it lasted 2 days, and then same thing. Dead! I need the larger drive, but now don't know what to do.

Summary: Works great, but more clicking sounds than I'd like to hear
Comment: I bought this hard drive to replace the 80 GB drive of my old (but great) Samsung P35 laptop, which was full up to the lid. Although I know that one can get cloning software for free on the web, I also bought Apricorn EZ-UP-UNIVERSAL EZ Upgrade Universal Hard Drive Upgrade Kit to save time. Everything worked out of the box and I now have the WD 250 GB drive in my laptop, with everything working just the same way as before, including the dual-boot with Ubuntu Linux. The first thing I noticed was that Windows Explorer took significantly less time to browse folders, in particular to open the "My Computer" folder, which used to take forever with my old (full) hard drive. The new drive is a tick louder than my old one in general and produces quite notable "clicking" sounds in particular. Nothing unacceptable, but enough to knock one star off, as silent operation is critical to me. Other than this I am very satisfied with my purchase.
