Summary: 2 Large deep, multi-book / laptop compartments and many smaller ones.
Comment: Background you can skip:
My 12-year old increasingly started to haul more books to and from school as well as his gadget-collection increased. His sling-backpack (one sling across the chest, otherwise a normal backpack) although high on the 'cool' factor, became a problem: the sling was pressing on his chest with the heavy load and the backpack would slide onto his lower back. It also lacked compartments for MP3 player, keys, cards, pens, calculators etc etc.. So we set out to find something new and better that would last through a schoolyear with a tossing-and-throwing 12-year old hauling around significant weight divided over large and smaller books and many little items he would need.
What we wanted:
0 A backpack with double slings around the shoulder that would equally divide the weight
0 One that would not slide down onto his lower back
0 Many pocket dedicated to gadgets
0 An exterior/interior that could handle sever treatment and still look nice
0 Nice looks that would be appreciated by a 12-year old
What we found appealing in this backpack:
Aesthetics: this Swissgear stuff looks nice: they put extra stitchings on it to make it look more 'finished' and at the same time make it less ravel-prone. The color is a bright deep red, making your kid recognizable at a distance and the metal Swissgear and other tags reflect light in the dark.
Versatility: the backpack is versatile: it has SEVERAL large deep compartments that make it easier for him to keep his books separated and with him. All the smaller dedicated and sometimes hidden compartments make it very organized.
Ergonomics: sidestraps (see photos by me) and the back airvent make it pleasant (as far as that is possible) to wear. The sidestraps keep the pack compacts against your back so that it does not slide down easily to the lower back. The airvent that is positioned mid back reduces excessive swaeting when carrying it because it allows some air to reach your back (great for summers).
Quality: I have used many brands, ranging from more expensive Ogio, eBags, Adidas, JanSport and Samsonite. The SwissGear that I use myself for my camera gear and travel with laptops is the same well padded, versatile uality. I paid double for that 2 years ago and it still is holding up where the others started to display worn fabric, broken zippers etc.
Conclusion: My 12-year old loves the weight distribution of this pack as well as the versatility of the smaller and larger pockets. The sidestraps keep it close to his back and therefore make the load seem lighter than with his old back pack. All in all this pack, backed by solid manufacturer warranty, is a great as it looks.
For under forty dollars this is a solid contender for your daily backpack needs. I'd pay up to fifty dollars for it.

Summary: Great Bag for the money
Comment: I purchased this item to replace a Targus bag I had. When i first opened the box I noticed it was a bit shorter than bags I'm used to, but I was amazed how much it held.
It is very comfortable and has a lot of neat compartments.
I'm very satisfied with it.
